Last week Amber and I were both sick and not able to go to church so we did a little home study while Seth was down for his nap. I thought I would share some of what we learned there because I had never been presented with this verse before: Now if you are like me you believe that life does start at conception. I've always used the passage where God tells Jeremiah that he has known him since even before he was born, and also where John the Baptist "leaps" in his mother's womb when Mary (pregnant with Jesus) is nearby. But I have never run across this verse in my study and noticed the impact it has on this belief... 22 Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. 24 The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. 25 May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice! I bolded the beginning and ending sentences. When I first read v22 I was thinking...that's kinda weird why would it be the mother who gives you life...being that she is the one who carries you for 10 months and births you. But then when I ready v25 it hit me...in v22 the Father gives life, but in v25 the Mother give birth. They are different, this has to be saying that life is at conception or why else would it give the Father credit for life (what else does he do? He doesn't carry the baby, he doesn't give birth...). The mother nurtures the life, sure, but she "gives" birth not "life" to the child. I just thought that was cool and worth sharing so there it is -Jed
